ATML

Add To My Library aka ATML is an on-going international Book Art project initiative and a series of events supported by art foundations, art galleries and educational centres. Taking the form of both physical installations, (METALIBRARY ) online community /Reference Library and publication, Add To My Library speculates on what cultural practice can be in the post-capitalist landscape of constant media consumption and perpetual crisis. It stimulates debate around notions of the history of ‘book destruction’ globally, as seen in Fahrenheit 451,1953 dystopian novel by Ray Bradbury, among many more discourses. It further invites participants to re-contextualise bibliographic experience and reinterpret their believes in association with the efforts to save the Libraries and educational centres in UK, Europe and beyond. Mitrentse is known for having invented the innovative methodology BIBLIOGRAPHIC DATA FLOW aka BDF that compiles favourite art book titles/authors, contributed by international specialists, cultural and academic figures , i.e museologists, artists, curators, writers etc, all adding to this idiosyncratic institution. Mitrentse performs a series of METALIBRARY, physical, interactive and participatory installations where the audience is encouraged to read, and re-arranged the existing library content and add further books. The project has so far positively promoted and encouraged audience participation that attracted international participants from all over the world.

Printed double sided  BDF publication Volumes accompany the project, which both act as on-line reference Library and as a total work of art. A series of drawings ,sculptures and collages have been produced that represent these selected books as building blocks of Museums & Edificies . To date ATML Volumes and METALIBRARY  have been presented at TATE MODERN , London, IFLA conference , International Federation of Libraries Association – Concert Hall , Athens, A.Antonopoulou.Art  Gallery, Athens , Lacey Contemporary Gallery, London (in association with A BOOK TO READ Charity ) , Nadine Feront Gallery Brussels, THE HEMPEL ArtWorkSpace, London , Mitte Gallery Spain , Jewish Museum of Greece,  International Book Fair /MIET – MOMUS collaboration, Greece, Trinity London, the Library of Philosophy & History University of Barcelona, at Departure foundation London ,The Women’s Art Library Special Collections, Goldsmiths University Library and at Coastal Currents Art Festival Hastings.

‘’Within a globalised environment dominated by digitalisation, e-learning, and restriction to education, Mitrentse’s on-going international Book Art Project initiative ATML, alludes to an idiosyncratic institution, a living Meta-Library designed to re-draw the cultural institution, and provokes changes in the function of the material book while in the process de-institutionalising it ‘’. Michael Hampton arts writer Art Monthly /Frieze

”The paradox of Mitrentse’s project is that it is both a sign of dissipation, of the loss of knowledge and the means for its transmission, and a conscious recouping or preservation of the culture of the book and archive. Mitrentse is known for having invented an innovative on-going methodology, ‘Bibliographic Data Flow’ that compiles favorite book titles/authors, selected by international specialists from the art world all adding to her infinite Library. ” Peter Suchin, art critic, Art Monthly/Frieze
