SCULPTURES
Amid today’s obsessive culture of digitisation, technocracy, censorship and destruction—from the Panama Project to AI’s ingestion of books—Christina Mitrentse reclaims materiality through her ongoing hand-crafted sculptures. Physical books—spanning radical philosophy, popular fiction, science and art—are defaced, hand-sanded, twisted, cut and assembled as “building blocks,” meticulously transformed into organic yet architectural forms: small-scale Pedestals, Plinths, Columns, Akrokerama and Fungi. These sculptural constructions question the social purpose and cultural significance of the physical book as a material vessel for knowledge, memory and resistance of humanity.
