BOOKSCAPES
‘The Wi-Fi Is Weak’, ‘Our Mental Space Is The Database’ and ‘Home Is The Net’ are titles from Christina Mitrentse’s ongoing BOOKSCAPES series, initiated in 2015. She transforms collectible hardbacks into vivid, painterly surfaces—echoing Mondrian, Rothko and Anne Ryan—where post-internet texts become ‘landscapes’ and ‘mental-scapes’. Hashtags and algorithmic codes are repurposed as a new Logos, archiving the language of the Internet while reflecting on digital abundance and its role as mediator between humans and nature. Amid the destruction and AI ingestion of books, BOOKSCAPES radically reorganises the physical book, probing its power to generate memory, thought, belief, authority, compulsion and imagination.
