SCULPTURES
Within an obsessive cultural context of hypertexts, e-learning and digitization, Christina Mitrentse creates an array of meditations on materiality, by re-appropriating books from her ATML project - A montage of radical philosophy, popular novels, science and art books have been defaced, handcrafted , hand sanded, twisted, cut and stuck together as ‘building blocks’, meticulously transformed into organic and yet architectural constructions of small scale ‘Pedestals’, ‘Plinths’, Coloumns, 'Akrokerama' and ‘Fungi’. Their sculptural formulation raises questions regarding the social purpose and the cultural significance of the physical ‘Book’ as a foreboding container for the distribution of knowledge within the framework of technocracy restriction, destruction and censorship i.e practices such as AI book-feeding.
